Violin

Giovanni Paolo MAGGINI

Year: 1610

The extremely precious violin ca 1610 by Giovanni Paolo Maggini in Brescia served the Estonian violinist Vladimir „Boba” Sapožnin (1906–1996) throughout his long career. The Maggini violin was presented to the Estonian Foundation of Musical Instruments by the Sapožnin family. With certainty the violin has been built in the Gaspar da Salo–Maggini workshop, most probably by the master Giovanni Paolo Maggini. The instrument has an even carrying sound as well as a distinct dark shaded lower register.

The violin has been certified by Andreas Post (Amsterdam).

Investing in the instrument foundation is a socially responsible investment that promotes Estonian culture and musical life as well as provides support to outstanding young musicians. I am very honoured to be a participant in establishing the foundation and making my contribution to it.
